Building on an insight

After researching the purchasing habits of its customers, Lowe’s found that many struggled to select a paint color in-store that they would love at home. To give customers more confidence, Lowe’s asked Mode to help them develop a paint kit that would simplify color testing, and allow customers to see how the color looked in their space before committing. The kit included mini, disposable tools for painting, a comprehensive guide on color selection, and unique, paint-and-stick SureSwatch Film sheets that allow consumers to see large, movable color samples on any wall in their home.

Coloring a complete experience

We worked together to bring the product to life from the brand up. Starting with the verbal identity, we created a name that’s direct, intuitive, and assuring. Spot On communicates purpose with personality, nodding to both the product’s function and its benefits. For the visual identity, we were inspired by the world of paint swatches in the store. Our goal was to transform an intimidating experience into one that felt fresh, fun and easy to take on. Using bold, clean typography and thoughtful color blocking, we laid the foundation for a unique brand that extended into every aspect of the product. We then worked with Lowe’s engineers to design the box’s interior structure, making sure the presentation of each element of the kit would be an intentional and organized experience.
